Letter from the parents of Maxim, who underwent stem cell transplantation in March 2025 at the Mardaleishvili Clinic in Georgia.
When our son was 1.5 years old, he was diagnosed with autism. Now he is 7.5 years old, and throughout all this time, we have made every possible effort to help him and make his life healthier and more normative. We turned to a wide variety of specialists working with autistic children, but there was no noticeable effect. To be honest, our trip to Georgia, to your clinic, was perceived by us as a last desperate attempt to make a miracle happen — to break through to our son’s soul.
First of all, we would like to note the excellent level of medical care, the physical conditions, and the professionalism of the clinic’s staff (I am a doctor myself and work in a hospital, so I understand these issues well). And we especially want to highlight the wonderful attitude towards us and our son from everyone who accompanied us, helped, and treated him throughout the entire procedure and our stay.
At discharge from the clinic, we were told that toilet training is one of the first skills that appears in children approximately three months after transplantation. We were surprised by such a confident and specific prediction, since we were used to receiving very vague and general answers and forecasts from doctors. To our astonishment, everything happened exactly as they said — for years we had struggled with diapers, without the slightest success, and then suddenly our son began to use the toilet, at first with our reminders but without resistance, and later on his own initiative, with almost no “accidents.”
After the transplantation, the child is changing before our eyes. Maxim understands spoken language more and more. I can communicate with him, something I could only dream about before! Maxim has started following requests, such as tidying up his room, putting on or taking off clothes/shoes, picking up his backpack, or helping carry a grocery bag. I notice a significant reduction in hand-flapping. New sounds are appearing. He has started to imitate actions that we show him. He has become more affectionate and seeks hugs. He no longer runs away from the playground when there are many children. His range of gestures has expanded, and with their help, he can even explain that a ball belongs to him — and other children understand him!
I would also like to note that Maxim had never worn hats or caps, let alone sunglasses. After the transplantation — the result can be seen in the photo!
Now we are waiting for further changes in Maxim’s condition, hoping for the best. And we are gradually starting to think about another trip to your clinic next year to undergo the procedure again and help our son even more.
